Drosera Peltata
Drosera Peltata is commonly called as shield sundew or pale sundew, Paamgaa, Jhingejaalo, Kitas, and Maakhaa Maarne Jhaar. Drosera Peltata is climbing or scrambling perennial tuberous species in the carnivorous plant genus Drosera. Among the tuberous sundews, Drosera Peltata has the largest distribution, which includes eastern, and Western Australia, New Zealand, India, and most of Southeast Asia.

Drosera peltata is a perennial tuberous herb. Its underground tuber is generally found 4 – 6 cm under the soil surface and its aerial parts range from 5 – 50 cm in height, with wide differentiation into several forms. The subspecies Drosera Peltata subspecies Auriculata is often the most robust reaching up to 50 cm in height, whereas the form known informally as D. foliosa tends to be the shortest, often only 5–10 cm. Drosera Peltata generally has an evident rosette of leaves at the soil surface, which is most pronounced in Drosera Foliosa and in contrast often reduced to scales in mature plants of Drosera Peltata subspecies Auriculata.

The aerial stem is simple or slightly branched in the nominal form of Drosera Peltata as well as in Drosera Peltata subspecies Auriculata, and the form informally known as Drosera Gracilis. Flowers are variable in color, but generally white or light pink. The color of the plants is also highly variable, with Drosera Foliosa generally bright grass green even when growing in direct sunlight Drosera Peltata subspecies Auriculata in variable amounts of red, and Drosera Gracilis always orange or dark red color.

Rare Species-Seamum Mulayanum Nair

Seamum Mulayanum

A survey of seamum mulayanum in 15 localities near Kolhapur, Maharashtra, revealed complete resistance to phyllody and wilt. Further screening under artificial conditions revealed resistance to phyllody and powdery mildew, but moderate susceptibility to wilt, while the cultivated species S. indicum was completely susceptible to powdery mildew. S. prostratum was resistant to all three diseases.

Morphologically, S.mulayanum  is very similar to S. indicum, except for flower, seed, and capsule dehiscence characteristics. Its seeds contain 28.3% oil.

This tracking of the sun in young sunflower heads is called heliotropism. By the time they are mature, sunflowers generally face east.
